She didn’t want her family dragged into this mess or to see them worry too much about her.

Raul and Henrik ruffled her hair affectionately. Now that they were here, they wouldn’t let anyone push Flora around
“Ahem.”
Mr. Richard cleared his throat and began, “Flora’s dad, I called you in today because Flora got into a fight with a classmate on campus. It’s caused quite a stir. Now, I can give you two options. One, we could issue a major demerit to Flora, which might even lead to expulsion if things get worse. Or two, reconcile with Jillian and seek forgiveness from her and her family.”
Of course, the expulsion threat was just to scare Flora. He had worked hard to recruit such a promising student and didn’t want to lose her.
But something had to be done.
Mr. Richard also hoped this incident would teach Flora a valuable lesson. She was too fearless, and that kind of attitude could get her into big trouble one day.
Jillian had been standing off to the side, and when Mr. Richard mentioned her, she straightened up.
Flora had the audacity to hit her in public, and Jillian wasn’t about to let her off the hook, with just an apology. With the upper hand now, she intended to humiliate Flora and her family.
Raul’s gaze landed on Jillian.
Seeing the girl with a bruised and swollen face, half of it bandaged, he felt a twinge of guilt.
No matter the reason, it was Flora who had hurt her.
“Jillian, right?”
Raul smiled. “Flora shouldn’t have hurt you this badly, and we’ll make sure she understands that. The Irving family will cover all your medical expenses and any follow–up costs. You’re classmates and roommates, which is a rare bond. How about we turn this around and make peace?”
“You think those words are enough to smooth things over?” Jillian sneered. “Flora hurt me so badly I needed stitches, and you think a few calm words will make me forget?”
“I might consider forgiving Flora. But make her kneel and kowtow to me three times, and I might let it go.”
Raul and Henrik’s faces turned icy at her demand.
They knew Flora well enough to be certain she wouldn’t hit someone without a good reason. Jillian must have done or said something to provoke Flora.
But the fact remained that Flora had hit her, and the video was already online. They needed to resolve this quickly to protect Flora’s reputation.
Raul softened his tone. “How about I, as her uncle, apologize to you on Flora’s behalf? Jillian, I know nothing I say can undo what’s been done, but…”
“If you know that, then stop wasting your breath!”

Jillian cut him off sharply, thrilled by Raul’s humble demeanor. Her face twisted into a cruel smile.
“I said, I only accept Flora’s apology,” she taunted, locking eyes with Flora. “Flora, even now, you won’t swallow your pride? Would you rather have your aging father grovel before me like a dog?”
The phrase “like a dog” was mouthed silently, considering Mr. Richard and the others were present. But Flora caught it clearly, even if the rest didn’t.
